W sumie nie wiem, co mnie skłoniło do degustacji albumu Włochów, bo enigmatyczna okładka pozbawiona jasnych barw jakoś niespecjalnie zachęcała do poznania. Więc co wywołało zainteresowanie? Przypadek i po części ciekawość przed nieznanym. Mówią, że ciekawość to pierwszy stopień do piekła i jeżeli faktycznie tak jest to w tym przypadku „piekło” jest warte grzechu.
Pierwsze takty intrygują; po kilku sekundach tajemniczych dźwięków zaczyna się muzyczna uczta o zdecydowanie nowoczesnym usposobieniu. To muzyka cięższego kalibru z pokaźną dawką ciężaru i skomasowanej energii. Utwory naszpikowane są rwanymi riffami, które trzyma w ryzach bardzo precyzyjna sekcja rytmiczna. Nic nie jest kwestią przypadku – dominuje matematyczna dokładność, punktualność. To co zmiękcza atmosferę i w pewnym sensie zaskakuje, to mocno melodyjne refreny, które odciążają dość industrialny klimat. Wówczas wokale, w przewadze drapieżne, stają się czyste i przejrzyste. Wielu skojarzy to ze specyfiką Fear Factory i coś w tym jest, choć Empyrios podąża nieco inną ścieżką.
Największą niespodziankę stanowią gitarowe solówki – w tego typu dźwiękach już sama ich obecność wywołuje zamieszanie, a tutaj jest czego posłuchać. Jednak nie ma co się temu dziwić, bo za partie gitary odpowiada niejaki Simone Mularoni, którego niektórzy słusznie mogą kojarzyć z prog/power metalowego DGM.
Ogólnie płyta robi jak najbardziej pozytywne wrażenie i z każdym kolejnym odsłuchem wciąga coraz bardziej. Kompozycje łączą w sobie nowoczesne wpływy, dziką energię z progresywną specyfiką. Klimatu dodaje atmosferyczna elektronika tworząca ciekawe tło dla wyrazistego instrumentarium. „Zion” nie ma słabych punktów i od początku do końca trzyma wysoki poziom pokazując, że w metalu wciąż można zaoferować coś nowego, świeżego.
Ten album stanowi kolejny mocny dowód na to, że słoneczna Italia to nie tylko wszelkiej maści powerowe klimaty. Włochy mają do zaoferowania o wiele więcej (nie mówię tu o kulinarnych przysmakach) i o tym świadczy m.in. nowoczeny „Zion”. Kto lubi klimaty pokroju Tesseract, Raintime, Fear Factory i Enej (ten ostatni to żart) ten zapewne pokocha muzyczną propozycję Empyrios. Bardzo dobry album!
