uTorrent jest jednym z najpopularniejszych programów używanych do bezpośredniej wymiany plików w sieci BitTorrent. Narzędzie umożliwia łatwe tworzenie nowych torrentów, wygodne zarządzanie aktualnymi zadaniami pobierania (lub/oraz udostępniania), a także obsługuje sieć DHT (umożliwiająca transfery bez pośrednictwa trackera), limity transferów, posiada dobry interfejs pozwalającymi korzystać z aplikacji przez przeglądarkę oraz czytnik kanałów RSS.
