Space Engineers to drugi z kolei projekt autorstwa założonego w 2010 roku studia Keen Software House, twórców zręcznościowej strzelanki Miner Wars 2081. Kolejny tytuł czeskiego zespołu deweloperskiego jest rasowym sandboksem osadzonym w kosmosie.

Akcja Space Engineers rozgrywa się w przyszłości, ale autorzy gry opierali się na współczesnych osiągnięciach NASA i nie stworzyli niczego, co by nie mogło powstać w najbliższych 60 latach. W grze wcielamy się w inżyniera i zajmujemy się rozbudową stacji kosmicznych, konstruowaniem budowli oraz statków, a także wykorzystujemy zdobyte zasoby i jednostki. Jako że Space Engineers jest reprezentantem gatunku sandbox, gracz otrzymał odpowiednio dużą swobodę w działaniu.

Tytuł został opracowany na autorskim silniku nazwanym VRAGE 2.0. Choć oprawa wizualna prezentuje się naprawdę przyzwoicie, to jednak największym osiągnięciem Czechów jest realistyczny, zaawansowany silnik odpowiadający za fizykę, dzięki któremu można demontować, modyfikować, uszkadzać, a nawet niszczyć poszczególne obiekty.

Now it's possible to remotely access the control panel screen and inventory when the ship/station is in your antenna range. Antenna relay is taken into account. Summary Players can now have proper control of their ships while sitting in the cockpit by adding (drag-and-drop) blocks to the toolbar. Activating such block can turn the blocks on/off, reverse rotation of rotors, increase/decrease velocity and many other actions already present in the control panel. No more constant control panel visits, players can now revert one of their many rotors by pressing a single button, lock/unlock single landing gear, turn any block on/off, etc. It's also possible to drag a group of the same blocks to the toolbar. We have also enabled the option to shoot from weapons which are attached on rotors and pistons; players can now build retractable weapons! Battery block and new power cell component have been added into the game. Communication relay makes now possible for signal to travel through multiple friendly Antennas; enemy signals that reach one antenna are relayed to all friendly players within your antenna network.You can merge ships while pasting in creative mode and we also added client-side saving and permanent death as a world options.
