In a time where most apps that focus on altering photos are focused on adding tilt-shift, filters and other subtle effects, people who want to do something more exciting with their photos may feel at a bit of a loss – but not anymore! Enter Space Paint, a new app from Vinegar INC that is sure to breathe new life into any users photos.

As I said above, photo manipulation apps are nothing new to the App Store – but Space Paint takes a vastly different approach to any other app that I’ve seen before. As the name would suggest, Space Paint allows to paint “space” themed objects over your images. Now, when I say “space themed” I’m not talking about replacing your head with Saturn in a family portrait, I’m talking about adding things such as bokehs, light effects and star formations to your pictures.

There are tons of effects to choose from within the app, and no user should have any trouble finding one that appeals to them. From smoke flairs to paint splatters, there really is an effect in this app for everybody. Users who are worried that this vast amount of effects might come as overwhelming need not fret, as Space Paint contains one of the best tutorials I’ve ever seen on an app. On the splash screen, just slide down and users will be presented with a detailed look at how the app works and how to get the most from it.

Once I was able to select the effect that I wanted to add to the picture, I assumed that the first thing the app would let you do is move it to the desired position. Instead, this vital option is actiavted by a button. It’s only a small niggle but alas one that really puzzled me. When users do move the effect you will probably notice a loading box appear for a few seconds, something that also got on my nerves.

Users can add as much effects as you please into any picture, so they needn’t worry about pinpointing that one perfect addition. The intensity of each effect can also be adjusted by the user, allowing them to choose between a more subtle or obvious effect. When the user has finished editing their picture they have the option to export it to their photo library, or share it to Instagram.

Overall, Space Paint, although fun to use, could do with a few minor enhancements before users really commit to using it for their pictures but even though it has faults, It’s myriad of features, Instagram sharing and fine-tuning settings are to be appreciated by power users and casual ones alike who are looking for some different effects.
