Pierwszy dodatek DLC do przygodowej gry akcji Alan Wake. Uciec z niego pomaga mu znany z „podstawki” Thomas Zane.
Drugi dodatek typu DLC do gry Alan Wake powiązany fabularnie także z wcześniejszym The Signal. Tytułowy bohater staje do walki z surrealistycznym i zdradliwym światem, w którym koszmary okazują się rzeczywistością, a największe zagrożenie czai się we wnętrzu własnego umysłu. Jego jedyną nadzieją jest Pisarz – The Writer.
Wkrótce po premierze gry Alan Wake studio Remedy Entertainment ujawniło prace nad pierwszym z planowanych mikrorozszerzeń – The Signal. The Writer zamyka więc planowaną serię DLC do Alan Wake jednocześnie ujawniając dalsze plany dotyczące marki.
Fabuła dodatku podejmuje wątki z bazowej gry i pierwszego rozszerzenia – The Signal. O ile jednak wcześniej tytułowy bohater starał się zrozumieć i nadać sens upiornej rzeczywistości w jakiej się znalazł, o tyle w The Writer podejmuje walkę z nękającym go koszmarem.
W końcowych fragmentach dodatku The Writer usłyszeć można m.in. piosenkę The Darkest Star zespołu Depeche Mode.
