One Technology for an Integrated Library
The Libronix Digital Library System is a technology used to deliver digital libraries of books and interactive study tools.
All of the products carrying the Libronix DLS icon work together seamlessly. Books from multiple publishers are automatically integrated into a single digital library on your system. You can expand your library with tools and content from different publishers and everything works together automatically. Look for the Libronix DLS icon to ensure that your growing library remains accessible through one, easy interface!
Successor to the Logos Library System
The Libronix DLS is a whole new system, but it's from the makers of the Logos Library System—so it acts as an upgrade to any existing LLS library and works with products that carry the Logos Library System logo. (Libronix Corporation is a subsidiary of Logos Research Systems, Inc.)
Modular Architecture
The Libronix DLS is more like a toolkit for delivering digital libraries than a single software package. The system is comprised of more than 100 components that are connected together in different configurations to address the very specific needs of different users.
Because the system is so modular it is possible to build digital libraries that are dramatically different. The Libronix DLS can be used as the platform for Logos Bible Software and be delivered with add-ins and components that are very specialized for the needs of Bible students. From a different publisher it could be the foundation of a medical reference library or a large legal database -- and be just as highly customized for doctors or attorneys as it is for Bible students.
The add-ins can deliver custom reports, searching interfaces, and even support for yet-to-be-designed data formats—every single part of the system is modular, easily upgraded, and dynamically upgradable!
Domain-specific add-ins, such as those for Bible students or doctors, aren't just an accessory to the system -- they're a key part of the system design. In fact the same technology that delivers the add-ins is used to deliver the "core" system interface. So add-ins for specific types of users aren't just tacked onto the system, they're as much a part of the interface as any other feature.
The result is a dynamic environment that smoothly adapts to an individual's personal digital library—no matter what their speciality of study or even how many specialties they're interested in. Not only do all the modules work well together, they work well together even when delivered independently. So if you start with a library of basic Bible reference books and then decide to add a collection of Greek and Hebrew resources you'll see the power and functionality of your digital library grow as the new features are smoothly integrated into the Libronix DLS along with your new resources—usually without even upgrading the program code!
Internet Integration
The Libronix DLS was built with the understanding that while many users today have access to the Internet everyone doesn't have an always-on broadband-connection. The system is designed to work well when you're offline, at your desktop or on a laptop, but to take advantage of the Internet when you are connected.
The system can be installed from CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or over the Internet, and once installed can detect and install new components and resources whether they arrive on other discs or are found over the Internet.
The Internet powers many other features of the Libronix DLS, including collaborative annotation, with which you can share your highlighting and notes on electronic texts with others in the same church, class, or group, and automatic headline downloading, which keeps you up-to-date on new features and resources for the system.
Certain add-ins, like the Bible tools, can even "read" a web page and look up all the mentioned Bible references for you!
Global and Multilingual
Logos Bible Software has users in more than 140 countries, who speak many languages, but our older version (Logos Library System) had specific limitations that prevented us from providing support for Arabic and Asian scripts, among others.
The new Libronix DLS was designed from the very beginning to be a truly global product. It is designed to support Western and Asian languages, to support Arabic as well as Hebrew, to support online transactions (for purchasing electronic books and tools) in any currency, and to support Internet upgrades and resources on mirror or primary servers anywhere in the world.
The Libronix DLS supports localized user interfaces and electronic books in hundreds of languages. Support for languages within the system goes beyond that provided by Microsoft Windows—you could use a Hebrew book under Russian Windows while running with a Spanish user interface.
Moreover, it is designed with "scalable" language support, meaning it can work with user interfaces that have been only partially translated, falling back to English when something isn't available in the local language. This is an important feature that enables users worldwide to always use the latest version of the software even if the latest translation work hasn't been done. So if the entire product is translated into Albanian, and then one new feature is added, Albanian users can use the new feature (with an English interface) during the time between its first release and when the Albanian translation is updated. This scalable language support makes it practical to support even very small language groups and ensures that users worldwide don't have to wait to get access to the latest updates.
Support for external, user-submitted translations is another way in which the Libronix DLS is more accessible to users in lots of languages. The Titus Language pages allow users to provide user interface translation for as-yet-unsupported languages online and at their own convenience. These translations can then be compiled and delivered apart from the core software—there is no need to update the program code in order to install a new user interface.
This powerful system allows users to help us provide support to smaller language groups—groups that might otherwise have no way to get Bible software in their own language.
