MERC: CAMPAIGN BOOK ONE: RHODESIA will give players all the pertinent information they will need to historically run their respective campaigns within Rhodesia. Because of the locale, we have added a new Specialist classification with it's appropriate Skill Test. Also, The Rhodesian Campaign has some unique units which we will discuss and show players how their characters will be able to fit within the Security Forces. It is also important that the Terrs are discussed and analyzed. We also give them basic stats for the CORPORATION'S use. MERC: CAMPAIGN BOOK ONE: RHODESIA is a complete and total campaign.

MERC Supplement (FGU 1981).pdf

The purpose of Supplement 1 is to add Specialties and Skills, and to clearify existing material. In no way is this Supplement meant to change the present game system.

When you are both a Role Player and a Game Designer, you tend to automatically put things in your 'Test Games' that somehow never make it to paper. No matter how many times you read your proof, there are always things that get by you. For this reason, we would like to take this time to appoligize for the items that were inadvertently left out of MERC: the Twilight Soldier. The fault lies with us, the Game Designers, solely.

In Book 3 - In Country, besides new specialties & skills, there are restrictions on existing material. In Book 4 - Motor Pool, the vehicle procedure has been intensified. All and any of these changes should be applied to existing characters and campaigns. Since the basic MERC system remains the same, these changes are only to add authenticity, realism, and action to your game.

We would also like to thank all those MERC players who have written to us with questions and opinions. It was through these letters that our mistakes could be rectified.

So, here is Supplement 1. We believe that it completes the MERC system . . . but you never know. Keep the letters coming, and we'll be more than happy to answer your questions and help with your campaign. Happy Hunting!

As long as there have been wars, there have been mercenaries. In ancient times the Persians and Romans used mercenaries as auxiliaries. Later, Napoleon had regiments of mercenaries and George Washington used Soldiers of Fortune to train his 'Rag-Tail' army. Mercenaries rode and fought with J.E.B. Stuart and Morgan during the American Civil War and Hitler's War Machine had divisions of foreign troops spread throughout his Wehrmacht and Waffen S.S.

Elite units were often composed entirely of mercenaries, such as the Wild Geese, the French Foreign Legion, the Lafayette Esquadrille in World War I, the Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War, the S.S. Division 'Prinz Eugen' and the Americans in the Flying Tigers. In more modern times, we have seen Col. Hoare's 5 Commando in the Congo in 1964.

Whether for 'money,' 'patriotism,' or just the 'Love of Adventure,' they came; the Lafayettes and Von Steubens, the Mickey Marcuses and Mike Hoares. All rallying to foreign flags to lead, fight, and die. These are the Twilight Soldiers!

Now, you can enter the World of MERC with this role playing/skirmish game. You have everything at your fingertips to enter 'the Bush.' All you need add is imagination.

Think of the possibilities: go back to 1954 and go on patrols with the Legion in Indo-China, or search the countryside of Ireland for I.R.A. terrorists, join 5 Commando in 1964, or even lead a patrol of Soviet 103 Guard Army Airborne into the Afghan hill country. With these rules and your imagination you can visit Rhodesia, Chad, Angola, El Salvador, Panama, or even Cuba. Of course, your accommodations won't be first class and you'll have people shooting at you, but we guarantee lots of excitement.
