Pewnego wieczoru "pożyczają" z nudy samochód . Gdy po przejażdżce chcą go odstawić na miejsce, zostają przyłapani przez właściciela auta. Jean-Claude et Pierrot uciekają razem z Marie-Ange, przyjaciółką poszkodowanego. I tu zaczyna się ich przygoda, pełna nieoczekiwanych zdarzeń , spotkań i przypadków.

Wife Collector was director Hisayasu Sato's third feature film, made in 1985. It follows the actions of a disgruntled taxi driver who regularly rapes his clients, videotaping the act. One of his victims, whom he has for some reason developed a sort of attachment to (partly due to the physical remains of the act; the evidence being the bite mark left on his shoulder), can no longer enjoy sex with her husband. Instead she takes to the streets and offers her body to whoever is willing, not charging anything. The woman's younger sister, who lives with her, has discovered all this and documented it with photographs that she eventually reveals to her sister and sister's husband, before she decides to meet with the taxi driver herself.

A gang of six wealthy, well-dressed and well-spoken hoodlums break into a married couple's house and rape the wife while forcing the husband to watch. Thus begins a dogged investigation by a determined detective who quickly finds that their cult-like solidarity can be a serious obstacle to breaking them. This is a rather good drama, very much of its time, that begins with a graphic gang rape, becomes a meandering cop story before hurtling us into the sex and violence underbelly of communes cum cults cum dogmatic nihilism. For the most part naturalistic and frank, which in part means we get the cop full frontal as well as all the girls (including a very early appearance from Sylvia Kristel) but also a feeling that we are witnessing nothing too forced. Only the later glimpses of the darker activities with the psychedelic edge hint at anything particularly stylish, but the film is none the worse for that. All performances are fine and even the scenes with the 'posh' kids and their parents are well done. A film that could not be made today and an intelligent look at counter culture of the day.

Now here's a real oddity : a one time only directorial effort from highly regarded Japanese author Masuo Ikeda, with Italian co-funding in order to sidestep strict as well as erratic Nipponese censorship laws (to little avail as it would turn out), shot superbly (by Mario Vulpiani who photographed the underrated giallo THE BLOODSTAINED SHADOW and Stuart Gordon's delirious CASTLE FREAK) on the ever photogenic Greek isles. Protagonist is a handsome young artist named Nikos (Claudio Aliotti from Lucio Fulci's GHOSTS OF SODOM) who lives in a boarding house run by love-starved divorcée Elda (Olga Karlatos, Mrs. One Eye from Fulci's ZOMBI 2) and her retarded daughter who has a serious crush on the womanizing painter. This initially exploitable character is played surprisingly (and indelibly) well by teen actress Sandra Dobrigna - billed here as Sandra Dobri - who you may recall as the little girl from the opening scenes of THE PYJAMA GIRL CASE. Her mere presence in what is essentially a sex film (relax, she's nowhere to be seen once textile is shed) gives a disturbing edge to this hothouse melodrama. Well, Ikeda IS Japanese, after all. The film's most explicit (though not hardcore) scenes involve Nikos and a pair of Swedish tourists, smoldering brunette Stefania Casini (from Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA) and a glowingly youthful, soon to become porn icon Ilona Staller a.k.a. la Cicciolina herself! These two exquisite women share the movie's single most memorable carnal encounter as they languidly make love in a very white bedroom setting as Nikos is forced to watch from the sidelines. Ennio Morricone's plaintive score adds just the right touch of melancholy and foreboding doom this somewhat overwrought but impossible to forget miniature Greek tragedy demands.
