This book tells - with first-hand accounts as well as numerous, never-seen-before photographs - the combat history of German Tiger Tank Battalion 503, the senior Tiger battalion of the German Army, equipped with both the Tiger I and the King Tiger. The battalion saw action in the attempted relief of Stalingrad, the tremendous tank engagements at Kursk, and the bitter fighting to relieve German units encircled at the Tscherkassy Pocket. It then defended against the Allies in Normandy in 1944, and ended the war with desperate fighting in Hungary and Austria.

This book is part a of new series coming to us from AF Editions in Spain. Published last year in Spanish, they are now appearing for the first time in English.
The book features a comprehensive narrative text and a combination of exceptionally high quality 4 color black and white photos accompanied by spectacular full color profiles of each of the tanks-all custom created for these books. AF Editions have pioneered a system for producing profiles which produce a unique texture rich look and a level of detail that is unprecedented.
This series and the books will be of great interest to all WWII enthusiasts and to modelers in particular.

This book is one of the Squadron Specials and is in a Vertical soft cover format of 96 pages crammed with superb B&W and Colour photos supported by colour plates representative of the Shermans used by the USMC Units that operated on Iwo Jima and notes such as excerpts from the Battalion after Action Reports.

David Harper has collected many previously unseen photos, including many colour ones of the campaign and woven these throughout the book to present a superb collection of the various USMC Tank Bns and the Japanese 26 Tank Regt. These are supported by excellent captions and a series of excerpts from the Battalion After Action reports which give a great picture of the campaign from the view of the USMC tankers.

A superb series of 14 Colour plates are given with excellent notes on colours, fittings, markings etc and an actual photo of the vehicle depicted which is superb for the modeller and an idea I’d like to see adopted as standard for this type of book. The photographs are present in a large format , typically two to a page which, allows the detail to be seen clearly.

This book is a fascinating and revealing look at the vehicles used by ISAF forces in Afghanistan. The author is a serving army officer who spent some time in the Kabul and Kandahar regions in 2007. His photos and detailed colours and markings notes form the basis of this new book, which will be invaluable to anyone interested in modern-day conflicts or modellers of modern military vehicles. The author is donating his royalties from this book to two service charities Dick Taylor joined the British Army as a Junior Leader in 1976, and served as a tank crewman and commander in the 3rd, 2nd and 1st Royal Tank Regiments, reaching the rank of Warrant Officer Class One. He has served in many countries worldwide, including in Australia, Canada, USA, Egypt, India, Malaysia and South Africa. He has served operationally in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Bosnia and Croatia, Macedonia, Kuwait and Iraq, as well as in Kosovo where he was awarded the Queens Commendation for Valuable Service. He was commissioned in 2000, and his specialties have included tank gunnery instruction, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear operations, Psychological Operations, and lately, defence exporting. He has a First Class degree in History, and is currently reading for a Master's degree at Dundee University. He is married with two sons and lives in Blandford, Dorset. Future MMP books from Dick include a 4-part series on British Army vehicle camouflage and markings from 1903-2003, "Warpaint" (Vol 1 due Jan 2008), and a fascinating look at the uniforms and equipment of British AFV crews in WW2, "The Men Inside the Metal" (due Spring 2008). Dicks' combination of active military experience and sound historical knowledge is perhaps unrivalled, and we are delighted to be able to offer his books to military enthusiasts everywhere."

Written by Claude Gillono, who himself calls the book a photographic essay, this is a softcover book in A4 size and contains 32 pages literally filled with pictures and color plates. In total you will find 83 black and white photographs, mostly taken by Propaganda Photographers. Furthermore you will find 4 pages of color drawings depicting various vehicles, including captured Allied equipment such as halftracks and trucks.

Page 1 has the authors note and the details of the book from the publisher, ISBN number, and who worked on it. Page 2 gives an explanation of which units were around during which time and a general order of battle and activities during the period the book is dealing with.

From Page 3 it starts with pictures of 5 cm PAK 38’s being unloaded from airplanes in Tunis to counter the Allied landings in Morocco. From page 4 it really is a mish mash of vehicles and, with supply lines in the dessert being quite long, every army took what it could get. So you get pictures of Jeeps, US M3 Halftracks, Dodges, the quite rare T28E1 AA halftracks, etc. as well as 8 rads and several types of German halftracks varying from SdKfz 251s to SdKfz 10s towing different sorts of artillery. Of course one cannot forget the workhorses of the German Army, the Panzer III and Panzer IV which were driving around in quite big numbers. In the book you will find a lot of pictures of both tanks although most of them deal with several variants of the Panzer III.

From page 15 you get the color drawings which show drawings of several vehicles complete with markings ranging from Panzer III J and N to a beute M3 Halftrack. There is also a page dealing with the Tigers that eventually arrived in Tunisia.

From Page 19 you get treated with more period pictures, mostly dealing again with Panzer III Js and Ns but you will also find several other vehicles like a Panzer II F, a Canadian Lorry, an SdKfz 251, etc. Pages 28 and 29 deal with the Tigers in Tunisia and the 2 pictures on page 29 show a Tiger tank getting maintenance and it is quite interesting to see what is laying around the tank.

The last pages show several vehicles like Panzer IV G, a Schwere Panzerbuchse 41, Italian M41/14, a 5.0 cm Pak 38, and an exploded Panzer III and a Tiger sharing the same fate. The inside of the back cover shows a table with what tanks were around at the time complete with numbers and additional notes. Below that you will find a section of markings that were found on the vehicles which are also shown in the book.

By early 1942, it was apparent that the Sherman tank was no match for its German adversaries. American battle doctrine of the time was that US tanks were not to fight opposing tanks, leaving this to tank destroyer units; however, the German forces refused to adhere to this plan. A number of different models using various chassis, turret, and gun combinations were tested, leading up to the T26 'heavy' tank design. It would be 1945 before this tank evolved into the T26E3 and finally saw combat. The basic design of the M26 - the designation the T26E3 had been given when it was classified 'standard' in March 1945 - was to form the basis of a long line of excellent tanks (M46, M47, M48 and M60) that would serve US armed forces for 40 years. Illustrated with 250 photographs, color profiles, and detailed line drawings; Doyle. 80 pages.

Squadron Signal's new book on the Cadillac Gage V-100 Commando fills in the gap between the WW2 armored cars like the M8 / M20 Greyhound and the present day USMC LAV25 and later US Army Stryker based LAV III. Several publications have covered the Vietnam use of the XM706, the US military designation of the V-100 Commando.

Squadron's V-100 Walk Around book with its detailed images is great source for the model builder Particularly with the release of Hobby Boss 1/35 M706). It is an essential complement to Richard Lathrop's "...V-100 Commando 1960-71" book by Osprey Publishing and R. P. Hunnicutt's Armored Car: "A History of American Wheeled Combat Vehicles" by Presidio Press.

However there is only one photo of the engine compartment. Photos of the engine compartment with the interior panels removed would allow model makers to fill in the engine compartment. Hopefully we may see photos from veterans of a working vehicle interior on the web. Follow the images bellow to different websites with images of the M706.
