Due to limited evidence, explanations for adoption and impact of gender quotas derived from one study frequently contradict findings from other cases. Quotas for Women in Politics is the first book to address quotas as a global phenomenon in order to provide greater analytical leverage in explaining their spread and impact in diverse contexts around the world. It is organized around two sets of questions: First, why are quotas adopted? Which actors are involved in quota campaigns, and why do they support or oppose quota measures? Second, what effects do quotas have on existing patterns of political representation? Are these provisions sufficient for bringing more women into politics? Or, does their impact depend on other features of the broader political context?
Synthesizing the literature on quota policies, Mona Lena Krook develops a framework for analyzing the spread of quota provisions and the reasons for variations in their effects. She then uses this framework to examine and compare different types of quota policies in Pakistan and India; Sweden and the United Kingdom; and Argentina and France.

Advanced Freemasons of all levels will find many esoteric interpertations of Masonic practice and procedures within the pages of this little book. Make no mistake about it, this is deep reading tailored to the needs of the Masonic initiate and will not be appreciated as much by the profane. Brother Robert Lomas prefers/tends to use the Initiactic style over the Historical style in most of his writings and this fact permeates the pages of this fascinating little book. Imaginative, creative, and speculative, "The Secret Science of Masonic Initiation" makes use of the first three tracing boards as it takes us on a wonderful journey through the endless possibilities of Masonic growth which can be obtained through meditation and contemplation within Masonic dreamscapes. I simply love this little book and bet you will also. It is highly recommended. Enuff said.

This book is an excellent follow up to the Meaning of Masonry, by W. L. Wilmshurst. It is a very deep an esoteric reading, not recommended for somebody who is just starting up in the Craft. But those with a more advanced knowledge and desire to understand what the Craft is and stands for, this book will provide a wealth of information.

Jest coś niewytłumaczalnie trafnego w starołacińskiej maksymie : " Mundus vult decipi , ergo decipiatur " - Świat chce być oszukiwany, więc niech będzie oszukiwany . Na początku czasów nowożytnych słowo " świat " zamieniono na " lud " ( populus ) . Znaczy to w gruncie rzeczy , że człowiek lubi oszukiwać twardą rzeczywistość , licząc na to , że przez to ją zmieni . Lud woli też kolorowe mity niż twardą prawdę , a w konsekwencji i przywódcy ludu bardzo lubią go oszukiwać , choć przy tym oszukują także samych siebie . U nas sprawdziło się to doskonale w referendum akcesyjnym do UE w roku 2004 , a chyba jeszcze lepiej w wyborach w roku 2007 .

La guerre déclarée pour contrôler Internet se déroule en France, en Europe et dans le monde. Le syndrome Hadopi le montre parfaitement, les lobbies menés par les industries culturelles, prétextant la défense de la création, veulent transformer Internet en minitel et imposer une société fondamentalement injuste ou le partage serait criminalisé.

An argument sometimes used against Freemasonry often goes as follows: "Christians claim that only Jesus can save them. Masonry teaches each man must save himself! If you claim to be Christian how can you go against the word of God???" Then a quotation from the middle of this particular book - 'The Meaning of Masonry' by Lynn F. Perkins - will be used to validate that point.

Perkins writes: "Therefore Masonry teaches that redemption and salvation are both the power and the responsibility of the individual Mason. Saviors like Hiram Abiff can and do show the way, but men must always follow and demonstrate, each for himself, his power to save himself, to build his own spiritual fabric in his own time and way. Every man in essence is his own savior and redeemer; for if he does not save himself, he will not be saved. The reader who succeeds in getting back to the real teachings of the masters, including Jesus of Nazareth, will find unanimity of thinking on this matter." (page 95).

Of course, what the anti-Mason neglects to mention is that the author (whose Masonic credentials regrettably, are simply not given anywhere NOR is he mentioned in books like "Masonic Reader's Guide" or the "Masonic Literary Harvest" which list hundreds upon hundreds of Masonic authors) says in the second paragraph of the introduction "Of course, he would be naive indeed who would declare that what Masonry meant to him it would necessarily mean to every other Mason. The author does not know it all, or anywhere near the all of Masonry; his book might well be called 'What Masonry Means To Me'."

In the third paragraph of the introduction Perkins says, in speaking in the third person about himself, "However, he claims to possess no 'authority' because of such studies; if he is right in his conclusions, they are completely valid to him alone."

Then there's the part at the end entitled "Personal Testimony" where Perkins says "I AND I ALONE (his capitalization), am responsible for my own interpretations of Masonic teachings. Masonry does not proclaim any particular techniques whereby the Builder shall construct his spiritual edifice." A few pages later, he says "The writer knows that the Masonic reader should not and will not take what he has said 'on authority';...." Regrettably, in the late 1950's, Perkins clearly was not writing assuming the audience of today's anti-Masons.
