Norman Taurog (Chicago, Estados Unidos, 23 de febrero de 1899 - Rancho Mirage, California, Estados Unidos, 7 de abril de 1981) fue un director de cine estadounidense.

Un exitoso actor infantil (en el escenario de 1907) y un protagonista romántico bastante menos exitoso, Norman Taurog, con cara de bebé, descubrió que estar detrás de la cámara era una experiencia más gratificante. Antes de convertirse en director, pagó sus deudas como editor de utilería. En 1919, fue puesto a cargo de las comedias de dos carretes, protagonizadas por el comediante Larry Semon. Estas películas fueron hechas en la costa este y no fue hasta 1926 cuando Taurog se mudó a Hollywood.

Su carrera como director realmente despegó con la llegada del sonido, y pronto adquirió una reputación como especialista en comedia ligera. También desarrolló una singular inclinación por trabajar con niños, a menudo otorgándoles recompensas de chocolate por su buena actuación. Ellos, a su vez, lo llamaron 'Tío Norman'. Taurog se convirtió en el director más joven en ganar un Oscar, por la película Skippy (1931), que contó con el niño actor Jackie Cooper, su sobrino de la vida real.

Taurog estuvo bajo contrato en Paramount desde 1930 hasta 1936. Prestado a David O. Selznick, también le hizo justicia a Mark Twain al crear la atmósfera adecuada para Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer (1938), obteniendo una buena actuación de Jackie Moran en el papel de Huck Finn. Las primeras tomas habían sido rodadas en blanco y negro, pero Taurog las descartó y volvió a filmar en Technicolor, algo que funcionó particularmente bien gracias al director artístico Lyle R. Wheeler.

Después de una temporada con la Fox (1936-37), Taurog tuvo su mejor (y el más largo) hechizo con MGM (1938-51). Sus trabajos de Serie A para el estudio incluyeron la icónica Forja de hombres (1938), la exuberante La nueva melodía de Broadway (1940) y la entretenida cinta musical de Judy Garland Presentando a Lily Mars (1943), basada en un best-seller de Booth Tarkington.

En 1952, regresó a Paramount, donde fue utilizado por su capacidad comprobada para hacer películas de manera económica y puntual. Taurog sacó el máximo provecho de los guiones a medida que le entregaron para una serie de comedias con Dean Martin y/o Jerry Lewis.
