Łazarz znajdował się w grobie od czterech dni, co w ówczesnym rozumieniu oznaczało nieodwołalną śmierć. „Jezus zapłakał” (J 11, 35), co pokazuje głębię Jego przyjaźni z Łazarzem. Jezus zawołał donośnym głosem: „Łazarzu, wyjdź na zewnątrz!”, a zmarły wyszedł z grobu mając ręce i nogi powiązane opaskami. W ewangelicznej opowieści o wskrzeszeniu Łazarza znajdujemy nadzieję dla nas wszystkich, bo przecież wszyscy kiedyś umrzemy. Los Łazarza jest zapowiedzią zmartwychwstania do życia wiecznego.
