Sometimes You Have to Lose Your Way to Find Your Heart.
'Christmas in my Hometown' is standard Lifetime TV holiday fare. Tim Matheson plays a well-meaning, but out-of-touch business executive at a tractor manufacturing company to one of its factories in Athens, Nebraska to determine whom to fire as part of the company's plans to downsize. The small, good-natured town (which surprisingly (or not) has zero minorities) of course, relies on the factory to support their families, as well as the life of the town itself. Posing as a representative from a farming company needing to fill tractor orders, he gains the trust of the town and in particular, a woman (Melissa Gilbert) and her young daughter who buys his story, trusts him, and then, along with the whole town, shuns him when they find out that he might be cutting their job.
Filled with lots of sentimental tripe, it is predictable family entertainment from beginning to end, and interchangeable as far as Lifetime TV holiday movies go. But, nonetheless, it is an innocuous little distraction when you just need to put up your feet and watch a movie that might make you smile a bit during the holidays.

Tom Lane is the star columnist for the media conglomerate owned San Francisco Sun newspaper. The company is thinking about increasing Tom's exposure by producing a new television show around him. Liz Madison is the advice columnist for the little read community newspaper, the Marin County Voice, which is a throwback to gentler times. Besides their journalistic occupations, one other similar aspect between Tom and Liz is that they are both currently single, with their friends and family doing whatever they can to find that special someone for their personal life. On November 2, the staff at the Voice learn that the Sun ownership has bought their newspaper, with the probable goal of folding it into the operations of the Sun. If this move does happen, the staff at the Voice will lose their jobs. To fight back, Liz decides to change her column to an editorial espousing the meaning of Christmas and the newspaper to the community. Because of the feisty and entertaining stance of Liz's new column, the circulation of the Voice increases so much so that the owner has second thoughts about folding it, which in turn would put Tom's new television show in jeopardy. To protect his career advancement, Tom decides to write a counterpoint column to Liz's, his about instilling some practicality into Christmas. The competing columns become a personal battle for the two columnists. But as Tom and Liz spew their mutual loathing for each other, their respective friends try to convince them of the old adage that there is a fine line between love and hate.

A week before Christmas Liza McCann visit her estranged father who strangely lives in a town decked out for the holidays and is full of Christmas spirit. Strange events immediately occur when they arrive challenging everything Liza had once believed in.
Southern California realtor and single mother Liz McCann is a workaholic, much like her banker father Jack Travers. Her work leaves her little time to spend with her ten year old son, Mason, even during the Christmas holidays, much to Mason's dismay. Liz sees Christmas as a nuisance with which to deal, except for being able to use the holiday spirit of others to her business advantage. Despite Liz's feelings about Christmas, Mason is able to talk her into visiting Jack for Christmas, he who has just moved to a little town called Hollyville, which isn't located on any map. Upon their arrival in Hollyville, Mason immediately becomes enthralled with life in the town, especially at the mysterious N.P. Enterprises, and the Christmas spirit pervasive there, which he believes is more than just Christmas spirit. Liz, who is surprised to see Jack living a more relaxed lifestyle, just wants to continue on with her work via cell phone. But Jack, Mason, and the local café owner Kevin O'Reilly, who, like Jack just found Hollyville when his life wasn't going all that well, try to convince Liz that she needs to believe to make her life more meaningful.
