Mysterious author Françoise LeRoi pursues a happily-married petit bourgeois, but she in turn is pursued by her young painter friend and by a wealthy old man who manipulates their lives with deadly results. It\'s obviously unfair to compare the work of director Juan Luis Buñuel to that of his father, the incomparable Luis Buñuel, but this early effort certainly invites comparison. Made at what possibly was the peak of the elder\'s celebrity, it stars Catherine Deneuve (Belle de jour, Tristana) and Buñuel\'s favourite surrogate, Fernando Rey. There is the familiar Buñuel anti-style: banal conversations, plan Américain shots, little music. The script is riddled with surreal jokes, and co-written by frequent Buñuel collaborator Jean-Claude Carrière. What\'s missing, though, is Buñuel senior\'s substantiality. But taken for what it is, the movie is a pleasure: Deneuve is lovely, Rey is in top form, the jokes are good, and there\'s enough strangeness to keep the viewer engaged to the end. I give it a thumb\'s up on the right hand, and two thumbs up on the left.

It is the tale of Parisian actress Mercedes who is first seen attempting to break up with the obsessive Arab Johnny, who stalks her until she meets handsome newspaper writer Pierre on the subway and goes with him for an afternoon fling. Before the sweat even dries, she finds herself hopelessly in love with him. Pierre is flattered and encourages her desperate devotion, but soon after their affair begins, he is called off on a business trip leaving the suddenly distraught Mercedes alone with her demons. Though preparing for a new play, she is unable to concentrate and barely able to function without Pierre. She quits the production, locks herself in Pierre's apartment and quietly begins falling apart until he returns.

Szantażowany senator szuka pomocy u swego kolegi ze studiów, ojca Luciona. Puppis był do tej pory niewinny i nieskażony grzechem. Teraz oto zachowuje się niezgodnie ze swą naturą i stanowiskiem. Na widok każdej damskiej pupy jego ręka bezwiednie dąży do niej. Ojciec Lucion wywozi więc nieszczęsnego polityka do szwajcarskiego klasztoru, gdzie uleczyć ma go z owej przypadłości przeor Scheir. Jednakże w klasztorze przebywa kilka niemieckich zakonnic.
