"L'uomo, la donna e la bestia" is what one could call an avant-garde film - it has something of Pasolini and of the Buñuel of "Un chien andalou".

The film begins in black and white. A man is watching a gravestone. On the gravestone there's a photo - it's his own photo. We see some images in black and white. An image of a woman. B&w turns into colors. The woman moves.

The man who was staring at the gravestone is a communist in crisis (but he's not a wife-beater as another reviewer wrote). He doesn't know anymore if his ideology has any use or reality at all. What is truth? But he still hangs on to his icons: photos of Lenin, the hammer & sickle etc.. His wife is a mentally disturbed woman that can be sometimes very aggressive.

We are in a small town in Italy. People are preparing themselves for the feast for the town's patron saint. The film feels natural: Little boys running around selling drawings of saints. The priest organizing the procession. Boys meeting girls at the town's main square etc... You don't feel that you're watching a film. I had almost the feeling of being there.

The ring includes not only the director, but other teachers, the bullies, and even the janitor...

The first half of Beautiful Teacher in Torture Hell is pretty original and plays out almost as a sleazy mystery - until we find out exactly what's going on - and then we get the requisite tortures at the hands of the school director and others. Basic rape/bondage material on display with none of the scenes being extremely noteworthy. One scene where the teacher is enemized then forced to sit in an aquarium until she "releases" is kinda novel.

Staples of 70's cinema such as drugs, politics, the generation gap, communal living and free sex are thrown into a mix to produce an enjoyable cinematic cocktail that captures the ennui of the period.

The film's surprising last stanza sounds a mean-spirited warning to women who freely advertise their sexuality without any intention of providing it. It is a nihilistic, barbaric, angry scene of human carnage that echoes the darkest aspects of "Last House on the Left", "Straw Dogs" and "I Spit On Your Grave".

A recurring song is used to potent effect over the end credits and the lead characters are brought to vivid life by the talented Guida and Carati.

Już w momencie swej kinowej premiery wywołał gwałtowne protesty wśród widzów zniesmaczonych niezwykle bezkompromisowym ukazaniem przemocy wobec kobiet. Oczywiście Fulci umieszczał wyjątkowo krwawe sceny gore we wcześniejszych horrorach, ale w przypadku "Lo Squartatore di New York" brakuje owej "fantastycznej" otoczki widocznej chociażby w "The Beyond" czy "City of the Living Dead", która czyniła przemoc tam ukazaną nieco łatwiejszą do przetrawienia. "The New York Ripper" pod względem okrucieństwa może z powodzeniem stanąć w szranki z tak brutalnymi giallos jak "Giallo a Venezia" (1979) oraz "The Killer Is Still Among Us" (1986).

Nikos Nikolaidis is a director unlike any other, here in Greece. His uncompromised, simple & cynical dialogues, his beautiful photography, extremity and obscenity, his weird "black" humour and somewhat ever present surrealism, all these make him my greatest. Greek cinema generally hasn't had many great moments for many reasons. Nikos Nikolaidis, uncompromised and unwilling to play "the big game" which he has been offered as a mainstream intellectual, for 30 years now and going he has been making powerful & controversial films that deserve more attention from serious cinema fans (both those who like the intellect and those who like it strange & bizarre!

"Ta kurelia tragudane akoma" , his second feature, a hymn to friendship & companion ship, is both cruel and funny, cynical and sweet, about people who have lost all hopes, a surreal tribute to the hopeless and pessimist 'betrayed' people. Neverless the film doesn't ever gets slow and remains quite unpredictable and interesting. All texts in Nikolaidis films are perhaps his best point.

This is a film that would probably be regarded as not appropriate for minors: while Nikolaidis doesn't glorify violence, there seem not to be any visible ethics or morality in his films, another reason he is regarded by some as 'anarchist' and 'angry' director.

Mimo swojej płytkości i zepsucia Tomokawa ma przyjaciół - spotyka się z kilkoma kumplami, jednak najwięcej czasu poświęca Sukemasie (Akira Shoji), upośledzonemu psychicznie chłopakowi. Tomokawa wypracował sobie sprytny plan, który polega na tym, że porywa psy, należące do atrakcyjnych kobiet z jego terenu, a w zamian za uratowanie zwierząt oczekuje od ich właścicielek usług seksualnych. W środku upalnego lata, kiedy po jednej z takich akcji Tomokawa odpoczywa w barze, podchodzi do niego piękna enjo-kōsai (prostytuująca się uczennica) o imieniu Yoko (Mayu Ozawa) i proponuje mu bez ogródek seks za pieniądze.

Kiedy Tomokawa budzi się w pokoju hotelowym, po Yoko nie ma śladu. Policjant, opanowany obsesją na jej punkcie, postanawia odszukać dziewczynę. Okazuje się, że mają ze sobą więcej wspólnego, niż podejrzewali - Yoko jest siostrą Sukemasy i córką dawnej kochanki Tomokawy - egocentrycznej Yukie (Mari Natsuki). Jej dziadkiem jest mistrz tradycyjnego tatuażu, który wytatuował Tomokawie na plecach obraz ptaka z chińskiej mitologii - z jednym okiem i jednym skrzydłem, który wiecznie szuka swojej drugiej połowy.

Wife Collector was director Hisayasu Sato's third feature film, made in 1985. It follows the actions of a disgruntled taxi driver who regularly rapes his clients, videotaping the act. One of his victims, whom he has for some reason developed a sort of attachment to (partly due to the physical remains of the act; the evidence being the bite mark left on his shoulder), can no longer enjoy sex with her husband. Instead she takes to the streets and offers her body to whoever is willing, not charging anything. The woman's younger sister, who lives with her, has discovered all this and documented it with photographs that she eventually reveals to her sister and sister's husband, before she decides to meet with the taxi driver herself.
