Osprey - New Vanguard 159 - Steven J. Zaloga - Sta ghound Armored Car 1942-62 (2009).jpg

“ The Staghound was a unique World War II armored vehicle - designed and manufactured in the US, but intended solely for the British army. Since its combat debut in Italy in 1943 until the end of the war it had performed particularly valuable service in a reconnaissance role where its speed and armor ensured that it was able to extricate itself from trouble as required without additional support. This book examines the development of this category of armored cars and offers a detailed analysis of the extensive combat use of the Staghound in British service as well as in the service of other Allied countries including Canada, New Zealand and Poland. ”
"Author Steven J. Zaloga is widely acknowledged as one of the foremost authorities on armor and has put his expertise to use in this book. Each type of vehicle as well as its development history is well covered and his writing style makes for interesting reading. When you add to it the quality period photographs and the superb artwork of illustrator Peter Bull, you have an excellent quick reference on a most intriguing subject. It is a book that I can most highly recommend to the enthusiast and modeler alike."

Waffen-Arsenal 62 - Horst Scheibert - Jagdpanzer, Jagdpanzer IV - Jagdpanther (1980).jpg

Introduction
Most studies of mechanized warfare in World War II focus on tank tactics and doctrine. But the dilemma of tank and infantry cooperation on the battlefield has long been one of the most controversial and intractable problems faced by armored forces.

Waffen-Arsenal 39 - Horst Scheibert - Sturmgeschue tz III (1977).jpg

Wydawnictwo Militaria 273 - Michail Buriatynski - IS Vol. I (2007)).jpg

Wydawnictwo Militaria 306 - Janusz Ledwoch - IS Vo l. III (2008).jpg

Detailed coverage of the operational use of the IS heavy Soviet tanks. 33 colour profiles. Diagrams. 95 b/w photos. Polish text with English captions and summary

Aby odnieść sukces, Armii Czerwonej potrzebne były nowe czołgi ciężkie służa.ce do wsparcia piechoty na kierunkach głównych uderzeń i niszczenia punktów oporu i umocnień, posiadające uzbrojenie silniejsze niż czołgi średnie T-34 (wówczas armata kalibru 76,2 mm) i ciężkie (uzbrojone w armaty kalibru 57 mm -„Churchill" i 76,2 mm - KW). Innym istotnym zadaniem czołgów ciężkich miało być niszczenie czołgów ciężkich przeciwnika (przede wszystkim PzKpfw VI „Tiger", a także, określanych jako ciężkie, PzKpfw V ,,Panther"). Takie właśnie zadanie miały wykonywać nowe czołgi ciężkie IS-I uzbrojone w armatę kalibru 85 mm i IS~2 z armata, kalibru 122 mm.

Lee Archer, William Auerbach - Panzerwrecks 3, Ger man Armour 1944-45 (2006).jpg

Pricy but classy publication. If you're fascinated by wrecked / captured German panzers and their supporting vehicles this is a prime source. While some of these pictures will lead to modellers dioramas - a few are just frustating (a vehicle covered in vegetation for camouflage is just a walking bush). It's interesting just how many vehicles/weapons the surrendering troops seem to have and museum curators will grind their teeth at the vehicles/equipment that just haven't survived to the present day. If you thought that panzers were standardised equipment just check this series out.
