*** FreeDOS beta9 prerelease 4 ***
This distribution contains the most up2date versions of FreeDOS(-related) programs.
It is intended as a basis for the forthcoming FreeDOS Beta9 distribution, called Methusalem,
which the FreeDOS distribution coordinator, Jeremy Davis, will release when it's done.
So far, only BASE set is covered. In compliance with GPL terms, sources are also provided.
I have tried to fit everything on disks from 360KB up to 1.44MB
Unfortunately, some sources are too big (kernel, freecom, chkdsk?)
missing stuff:
*other disksets than BASE & SRC_BASE ( http://www.freedos.org/freedos/software/ )
*Base: correct version of RIPCORDX
*SRC_base: updated version numbers in sourcefile
*SRC_base: ATAPICDD sources. Public domain, so no sources *required* to give (go find them!)
*version history (programs.txt) partly updated. Please see the provided *.LSM text files
*stable cdromdriver. Please download VIDE-CDD.SYS and put it on your bootdisk (a:\driver\vide-cdd.sys)
For bootable cdroms I've provided the Eltorito.sys driver, courtesy of Bart Lagerweij
(www.nu2.nu). AtapiCDD unfortunately is too slow and causes crashes.

This is the feature-list for the fd beta9 cdrom release

Featurelist:
*(CD/DVD)ROM
+can be burned on 650MB cd or higher capacity
+can be easily integrated on distribution cdroms,
like magazines which want to promote FreeDOS.
+bootable on modern computers if computer supports it
(Intel P166 or compatible, or newer computers)
+can be used on all computers with a cdrom-drive.
720KB, 1220KB and 1440KB diskette-images are available.
+easily recreated in case you want to update the cdrom.
+bootdisk builder allows you to create freely distributable
general-purpose (troubleshooting/installation) bootdisk,
something that is quite difficult in NT family OS's
(even XP, given the limits of the WinME kernel used on bootdisk)
*FreeDOS beta 9 distribution
+updated lots of programs to latest version
+installs a default config.sys and autoexec.bat configuration files.
+does not overwrite any MSDOS (tm) or Windows(tm) files.
+multiboot capabilities with MSDOS 5.0 - 6.22 and Windows 95 - ME
using MetaKern bootloader.
+supports installation on FAT16 partitions beyond 8GB (large disks),
for example create a 100MB Freedos partition at end of 60GB harddisk.
+multimenu automatically created as demonstration for bootup options
+includes several language files to aid installation and use.
+DOS kernel supports FAT32 and allows you to install Windows
+includes UDMA driver for harddisk read and write acceleration.
+FORMAT program includes optimised settings for later-on NTFS
conversion.
