Niniejsze opracowanie omawia dostawy sprzętu pancernego i samochodów z Wielkiej Brytanii i Kanady, część druga będzie omawiała sprzęt dostarczony przez USA. Do chwili obecnejprob-lematyka użycia sprzętu wojskowego produkcji zachodniej na froncie wschodnim nie doczekała się stosownego omówienia. Na przeszkodzie stały zamknięte archiwa sowieckie, a potem rosyjskie. Opracowanie przybliża Czytelnikowi temat dostaw sprzętu z Wielkiej Brytanii i USA do ZSRS. Książka jest bogato ilustrowana unikalnymi fotografiami i planszami barwnymi przedstawiającymi malowanie ochronne (kamuflaż) omawianych pojazdów bojowych.

The patch is a customized emblem designed specifically for a particular organization. An emblem is often displayed on patches, decals, plaques and other memorabilia. Pride and comradery in the crew is a direct result of the patch as a daily reminder that a specific unit is the best in the Navy. In the past, patches were designed by and for the unit members. Although not approved by Navy Regulations until the 1950s, for Unofficial use only, Navy units have proudly displayed their patches since World War II. Today, patches are both Official and Unofficial. The Official version has either been designed or approved by the Naval Board of Heraldry, with each element and color of the design having a specific meaning. This is the second of three volumes covering Naval Aviation patches from World War II to the present each volume will contain over 1000 patches in full color. Despite the plethora of writing about jazz, little attention has been paid to what musicians themselves wrote and said about their practice. An implicit division of labor has emerged where, for the most part, black artists invent and play music while white writers provide the commentary. Eric Porter overturns this tendency in his creative intellectual history of African American musicians. He foregrounds the often-ignored ideas of these artists, analyzing them in the context of meanings circulating around jazz, as well as in relationship to broader currents in African American thought. Porter examines several crucial moments in the history of jazz: the formative years of the 1920s and 1930s; the emergence of bebop; the political and experimental projects of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s; and the debates surrounding Jazz at Lincoln Center under the direction of Wynton Marsalis. Louis Armstrong, Anthony Braxton, Marion Brown, Duke Ellington, W.C. Handy, Yusef Lateef, Abbey Lincoln, Charles Mingus, Archie Shepp, Wadada Leo Smith, Mary Lou Williams, and Reggie Workman also feature prominently in this book. The wealth of information Porter uncovers shows how these musicians have expressed themselves in print; actively shaped the institutional structures through which the music is created, distributed, and consumed, and how they aligned themselves with other artists and activists, and how they were influenced by forces of class and gender. What Is This Thing Called Jazz? challenges interpretive orthodoxies by showing how much black jazz musicians have struggled against both the racism of the dominant culture and the prescriptive definitions of racial authenticity propagated by the music's supporters, both white and black.

In the December 30, 1967, edition of the weekly Thoroughbred trade publication, the Blood-Horse, was an announcement that took up one inch of space—James E. “Ted” Bassett III had been named assistant to the president of the Keeneland Association. It was sandwiched between equally short news items about a handicapping seminar at an East Coast racetrack and a California vacation trip by a horse-owning couple. Bassett’s new job, in his own words, “was not earthshaking news.”

More than four decades later, Ted Bassett is one of the most respected figures within the global Thoroughbred industry. He has served as Keeneland’s president, chairman of the board, and trustee, playing a critical role in its ascendency as a premier Thoroughbred track and auction house. Bassett was also president of Breeders’ Cup Limited during its greatest period of growth and has been a key architect in the development of the Sport of Kings as we know it today.

Written in collaboration with two-time Eclipse Award–winning journalist Bill Mooney, Keeneland’s Ted Bassett: My Life recounts Bassett’s extraordinary journey, including his days at Kent School and Yale University, through his U.S. Marine Corps service in the Pacific theater during World War II, and as director of the Kentucky State Police during the turbulent 1960s. This volume examines the Anglo-Israeli relationship from early 1956 to the summer of 1958, against the wider background of the Cold War, rivalry of the superpowers and the upheavals in the Middle East. During this period the Anglo-Israeli relationship went through two major phases. The first one, from early 1956 to early 1957, was marked by growing tension in the Middle East when relations between Britain and Israel were at best cool and at times hostile. The second phase, from March 1957 to the summer/autumn of 1958, was characterized by the growing instability of pro-western states in the region and by an eventual breakthrough in Anglo-Israeli relations. Anglo-Israeli relations were overshadowed by Britain's interest in the Middle East, which were essentially to keep oil supply routes and communication with the Indian Ocean open. It was only the Iraqi coup d'etat in 1958 and the collapse of the Baghdad Pact, which paved the way for the change in Anglo-Israeli relations. This dramatic set of events, coupled with Israel's willingness to co-operate with the US and the British military rescue operation in Jordan, led to a less antagonistic and distrustful relationship resulting in a definite change in Whitehall's attitudes. This study aims to demonstrate that as far as Anglo-Israeli relations were concerned it was the upheavals after the Suez war and primarily the crisis during the summer of 1958 that led to an enhanced understanding between Britain and Israel.
