Over more than thirty years, a department of the Condesa in Mexico City, is the setting in which they are carried out ten stories, mixed, form one whose only constant is the rupture. The passage of time and the outside world only guess through the windows and objects that come with the characters. The set is a great solitude, possible in a city of the blind.

"L'uomo, la donna e la bestia" is what one could call an avant-garde film - it has something of Pasolini and of the Buñuel of "Un chien andalou".

The film begins in black and white. A man is watching a gravestone. On the gravestone there's a photo - it's his own photo. We see some images in black and white. An image of a woman. B&w turns into colors. The woman moves.

The man who was staring at the gravestone is a communist in crisis (but he's not a wife-beater as another reviewer wrote). He doesn't know anymore if his ideology has any use or reality at all. What is truth? But he still hangs on to his icons: photos of Lenin, the hammer & sickle etc.. His wife is a mentally disturbed woman that can be sometimes very aggressive.

We are in a small town in Italy. People are preparing themselves for the feast for the town's patron saint. The film feels natural: Little boys running around selling drawings of saints. The priest organizing the procession. Boys meeting girls at the town's main square etc... You don't feel that you're watching a film. I had almost the feeling of being there.

When the teacher saves the school director's grand-daughter from some abuse at the hands of the bullies, the director invites her over for dinner as a "thank-you". Turns out, he's actually the mastermind of a ring that abuses new teachers and turns them into sex-slaves. The ring includes not only the director, but other teachers, the bullies, and even the janitor...

The first half of Beautiful Teacher in Torture Hell is pretty original and plays out almost as a sleazy mystery - until we find out exactly what's going on - and then we get the requisite tortures at the hands of the school director and others. Basic rape/bondage material on display with none of the scenes being extremely noteworthy. One scene where the teacher is enemized then forced to sit in an aquarium until she "releases" is kinda novel.

Could you credit a film featuring an S&M dominatrix, a burly petty thief, and an all-powerful, mysterious businessman/probable pimp; a film which boasts elaborate scenes of bondage torture and mutilation, and a very graphic horse-slaughtering sequence, as well as more usual acts of petty thuggery, such as the hurling of a man down a stairs, or the drunken smashing of a bar-room window; could such a film be considered benevolent and optimistic? Because such is the ultimate feeling one gets from this weird, enigmatic, lovely film, once considered so scandalous it was banned in England, but now seems positively cuddly.

The film's surprising last stanza sounds a mean-spirited warning to women who freely advertise their sexuality without any intention of providing it. It is a nihilistic, barbaric, angry scene of human carnage that echoes the darkest aspects of "Last House on the Left", "Straw Dogs" and "I Spit On Your Grave".

A recurring song is used to potent effect over the end credits and the lead characters are brought to vivid life by the talented Guida and Carati.

Oczywiście Fulci umieszczał wyjątkowo krwawe sceny gore we wcześniejszych horrorach, ale w przypadku "Lo Squartatore di New York" brakuje owej "fantastycznej" otoczki widocznej chociażby w "The Beyond" czy "City of the Living Dead", która czyniła przemoc tam ukazaną nieco łatwiejszą do przetrawienia. "The New York Ripper" pod względem okrucieństwa może z powodzeniem stanąć w szranki z tak brutalnymi giallos jak "Giallo a Venezia" (1979) oraz "The Killer Is Still Among Us" (1986).

Greek cinema generally hasn't had many great moments for many reasons. Nikos Nikolaidis, uncompromised and unwilling to play "the big game" which he has been offered as a mainstream intellectual, for 30 years now and going he has been making powerful & controversial films that deserve more attention from serious cinema fans (both those who like the intellect and those who like it strange & bizarre!

"Ta kurelia tragudane akoma" , his second feature, a hymn to friendship & companion ship, is both cruel and funny, cynical and sweet, about people who have lost all hopes, a surreal tribute to the hopeless and pessimist 'betrayed' people. Neverless the film doesn't ever gets slow and remains quite unpredictable and interesting. All texts in Nikolaidis films are perhaps his best point.

This is a film that would probably be regarded as not appropriate for minors: while Nikolaidis doesn't glorify violence, there seem not to be any visible ethics or morality in his films, another reason he is regarded by some as 'anarchist' and 'angry' director.

Kiedy Tomokawa budzi się w pokoju hotelowym, po Yoko nie ma śladu. Policjant, opanowany obsesją na jej punkcie, postanawia odszukać dziewczynę.
