‘Blood Song is set in a pseudo-medieval world of castles and courts, gowns and princesses. Amentia, where my heroine Zeraphina comes from, is a cold, gloomy sort of place. The castle is run down and the grounds are overgrown. Another winter is setting in and the harvest has failed. It’s not a happy place to be. That’s one way Zeraphina convinces her sister Lilith that they should travel northwards—not only to meet her future husband, but also to escape another dreary winter of ice and snow.
