The Tokugawa Shogun at death’s door and chooses a successor, then dies. Unfortunately, the successor is more interested in books than women. Fearing that the new Shogun will not carry on the Family name, a corrupt lord, with the help a female Ronin Hood-esque thief, replaces the Shogun with a horny double, while the Shogun learns the pleasures of women. They get more than they bargained for then the double, with his new found wealth, power and access to the O’oku, refuses to give up his title.

Not enough, the complexly developed story also stretches out to themes of friendship, passion, revenge and death wish. This assumes intense preoccupation with all the multiple layers of the movie. In aesthetic, tender images the stunned audience witnesses events that blurred the frontiers between reality and fiction probably already during the shooting. Just apparently in contradiction the events are accompanied by citations of German contemporary history, which gives Marian Dora's work a powerful intellectual historical basis. The movie's structure is similar to the baroque cathedral which gets a central role in the movie: The story and (only on the first sight) marginal details get mirrored like a symmetry axis and seem to be the counterpart of the leading characters destiny.

One of Japanese director Chusei Sone's better pinku eiga films of the period, this softcore melodrama features talk-show hostess Maria Mitsui as Akemi, a laboratory technician who spends her evenings spying on her gangster neighbor (Nobutaka Masutomi) as he makes love to his stripper girlfriend (Meika Seri). The objects of Akemi's voyeuristic attentions learn of her interests and suggest that she'd make a fine prostitute. Not surprisingly, Akemi agrees and channels her interests into this more lucrative occupation. Despite the silly plot, this well-made Nikkatsu film was a bit of a comeback for Sone, who had slipped from his reputation as the studio's most reliable director with a series of remarkably dull efforts in the mid-'70s. This one manages to be entertaining, and was a sign of even better films to come, as Sone entered the most creative period of his career with superior efforts like Tenshi No Harawata Akai Kyoshitsu and Akai Boko.

This movie seems to combine the 70's drive-in fascination with the Patty Hearst kidnapping with its fascination for sexy cheerleaders. Three squads of cheerleaders are on their way to a competition and for some reason are sharing a single school bus (even though one is a tough, inner-city squad and another is from an elite private school) when they are all kidnapped and held for ransom by a group of ex-jocks who call themselves the National American Liberation Army. There's the usual sexploitation filler--the captors and the cheerleaders kill time by having a topless beauty contest, lead Kristine DeBell has (offscreen) sex with the good guy kidnapper,and the lone female kidnapper (who is of course a lesbian) seduces one of the other girls in a bathtub. Finally, the three teams band together to fight back, which mainly involves a long, gratuitous scene where they all strip off their underwear and fashion it into a rope which they use to trip one of the kidnappers. (Someone could have just stuck her foot out, but where's the fun in that?)

Twórcom, poza uzyskaniem dwustronnego spojrzenia, udała się jeszcze inna, nie mniej trudna sztuka, jaką jest łączenie partii seksualnych z elementami humorystycznymi.

The film opens on a shot of the "Los Angeles City Limits" sign. It then cuts to Fred Halsted taking a walk in the forest and coming upon a man sunning himself in the nude. They briefly talk and end up having passionate sex in the wilderness only to be interrupted by bulldozers destroying the wildlife area in order to build a new suburb. The film suddenly switches to inner city Los Angeles as Halsted and a man from Texas discuss in voice over the problems with modern society and the dishonesty of most people. This is inter-cut with shots of hustlers, bums, vagrants, porn theaters and shops, as well as footage of a man (presumably the Texan) being brutally tortured by Halsted. Eventually the man is bound and left helpless in a closet, a symbol of the violent and trapping nature of Los Angeles.

As odd, dark and meandering McDowell's best-known film is - the one-of-a-kind Thundercrack! - Lunch is relatively light-hearted, fast-paced fun! McDowell's schizophrenia if this is low-rent art or arty pornography is given full-reign. If Paul Bartel or either of the Kuchar brothers ever tried to make a straight-up XXX porn film, it would probably look a lot like this.

The thin plot is the sexual shenanigans of the inhabitants of an apartment building. There's plenty of hardcore, suggesting McDowell was working for hire.
