The Centurion was the primary British main battle tank of the post World War II period, and was a successful tank design, with upgrades, for many decades. The chassis was also adapted for several other roles.

Manufacture of the Centurion began in January 1945, and six prototypes arrived in Belgium soon after the war in Europe ended in May 1945. The Centurion served in more wars than any other western tank.

* It first entered combat with British forces in the Korean War in 1950, in support of the UN forces.
* The Centurion later served in the Indo-Pakistani wars of 1965 and 1971, successfully fighting US supplied Pakistani M47s,
* It served with the Royal Australian Armoured Corps in Vietnam.
* It was sold to Israel which used Centurions in 1967, 1973, and during the 1975 and 1982 invasions of Lebanon. Centurions modified as APCs were used in Gaza, the West Bank and the Lebanese border.
* South Africa used its Centurions in Angola.
* The Royal Jordanian Land Force used Centurion tanks in the Golan Heights in 1973.

It became one of the most widely used tank designs, equipping armies around the world, with some still in service until the 1990s. As recently as the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict the Israel Defense Forces employed heavily modified Centurions as armoured personnel carriers and combat engineering vehicles.

The M48 Patton was one of the U.S army's principal main battle tanks of the Cold War, with models in service from the early 1950s to the 1990s. The M48 was the U.S. Army and Marine Corps primary tank during the Vietnam War. It was widely used by U.S. Cold War allies, especially other NATO countries. The tank belongs to the Patton family of tanks, named after General George S. Patton, commander of the U.S. Third Army during World War II and one of the earliest American advocates for the use of tanks in battle. It was a further development of the M47 Patton tank.

The M48 Patton tank was designed to replace the previous M47 Pattons and M4 Shermans. Although largely resembling the M47, the M48 Patton was a completely new tank design despite a rough similarity from a distance. Some M48A5 models served well into the 80s. Internationally, many various M48 Patton models remain in service.

The 105 mm Gun Full Tracked Combat Tank, M60, is also known (but was never officially named) as the M60 Patton, and is a second-generation main battle tank (MBT) introduced in December 1960. It was widely used by the U.S. and its Cold War allies, especially those in NATO, and remains in service throughout the world today despite being superseded by the M1 Abrams. Egypt is currently the largest operator with 1,700 upgraded M60A3s, Turkey is second with more than 900 upgraded units in service, and Israel is third with over 700 units of Israeli variants.

Our previous issue, 'Sturmartillerie" Part I. covered basically all heavily armored, fully-enclosed infantry support vehicles used mainly by infantry and anti-tank units. This booklet will make an attempt to illustrate the development of self-propelled vehicles, born out of the necessity to create support vehicles within the framework of an emergency program to fill most pressing combat needs. These solutions did not always fulfill ail obligations and did not produce vehicles of overall sound design, as described in Part I.
They closed the gap, however, and provided hard-pressed infanlry units with much-needed protection. This was especially true during the initial phase of the Russian campaign In 1941. when Russian tanks, and specifically their "T 34", rendered the entire German tank and anti-tank weaponry useless. During this period, only the 88 mm anti-aircraft gun. never intended to be used at that scale for ground support, proved to be effective. To equalize the balance of fire power, every conceivable weapon was utilized, and it will be most difficult to mention all of the conversions within the framework of this book.

In 1934, the basic concept of the newly developed "Panzerkampfwagen" provided a clear Indication of their main purpose: namely, to be used within Armored Divisions for operational warfare. The infantry, which was left without armored support, demanded a vehicle of their own. Agreeing with their demand, the German High Command placed an order on June 15. 1936 to create an armored vehicle to be used as support artillery for assault and anti-tank purposes.
Charged with the responsibility for design and development were the companies of Daimler-Benz AG of Berlin-Marienfelde for chassis and superstructure and Friedrich Krupp AG. of Essen for the armament. In its final design, the vehicle appeared as a full-tracked, turretless. fully enclosed armored vehicle, mounting a short barreled 75 mm Kwk L/24 (the main armament of the Panzer IV) In limited traverse. To accommodate these features, including a four man crew and armor protection of 10 to 50 mm, a Panzer III chassis was used.

Po zakończeniu II wojny światowej Armia Sowiecka stanowiła ogromną siłę. Do ostatnich miesięcy istnienia Związku Sowieckiego Armia Czerwona była największą armią świata, posiadającą więcej jednostek pancernych niż jej potencjalni przeciwnicy razem wzięci. Nawet po rozpoczęciu pierestrojki sowieckie wojska pancerne zachowała swą siłę: 1 stycznia 1990 roku posiadały 63 900 czołgów i 76 520 innych pojazdów pancernych. Armie pancerne były ruchomymi zgrupowaniami czołgów, posiadały artylerię rakietową, rakiety przeciwlotnicze oraz jednostki śmigłowców szturmowych. Zgrupowanie było rozwinięte na Zachód - armie pancerne stacjonowały w NRD i europejskiej części ZSRR. Ich siła uderzeniowa była ogromna. Żadne inne państwo nie posiadało takich sił pancernych.
W książce przedstawiono schematy organizacyjne jednostek pancernych, stany liczebne sprzętu pancernego. Przedstawiono również histroię poszczególnych wielkich jednostek pancernych Armii Czerwonej. 149 fotografii, 4 mapy, 7 stron kolorowych. Polish text, English captions.

W Niemczech nie prowadzono dotąd prac nad rozwojem terenowych pojazdów uzbrojonych. Ale już w listopadzie 1916 roku powołano specjalną komisję techniczną pod kierownictwem inżyniera, kapitana J. Vollmera w celu skonstruowania własnego czołgu. Wiosną 1917 roku Ministerstwo Wojny w Berlinie - Lichterfelde mogło zapoznać się z podwoziem prototypu i zabudowaną na nim drewnianą makietą nadbudówki. Po uporaniu się z całym szeregiem problemów technicznych, pod koniec października 1917 roku powstał pierwszy gotowy do użycia czołg o nazwie A.7V. (Allgem. Kriegsdepartament 7. Abteilung - Verkehrswesen). W ciągu niecałego roku planowano wyprodukowanie 100 zamówionych pojazdów, jednak niemiecki przemysł zbrojeniowy nie miał żadnych wolnych mocy produkcyjnych, by plan ten zrealizować. Pierwsze masowe użycie czołgów przez Anglików datuje się na 20 listopada 1917 roku koło Cambrai, gdzie walczyło 476 pojazdów. Dopiero 21 marca 1918 roku pierwsze niemieckie czołgi wzięły udział w walkach. Do końca wojny oddano do użycia tylko 20 A.7V. Razem z 40 angielskimi czołgami zdobycznymi typu Mk IV, naprzeciw 60 niemieckim czołgom stało około 1600 angielskich, 3000 francuskich i 1000 amerykańskich.

Elefant is the common name of a German tank destroyer of World War II. The official German designation was Panzerjäger Tiger (P). The ordnance inventory designation was Sd. Kfz. 184. The Elefant (German "elephant") was a "Schwerer Panzerjäger" (heavy tank destroyer) of the German Wehrmacht, initially built under the additional name Ferdinand, after their designer Ferdinand Porsche, before it was changed to Elefant.
