The End of the Communist Revolution puts Perestroika firmly in its long-term historical perspective as the final stage of a long revolutionary process, and within the context of Leninism, Stalinism and Breshnevism. Daniels puts forward a new interpretation of the striking events in the later half of the twentieth-century which led to the downfall of Gorbachev and Communism in the late Soviet Union. W 1948r. od płn. części Korea Płn. graniczy z ChRL (Chiny w tym czasie są pogrążone w III wojnie domowej wojna zakończona zwycięstwem Chińskiej Armii Ludowo – Wyzwoleńczej prowadzonej przez Mao Zedonga, który jest pod bezpośrednim wpływem Stalina.)
Korea Płd. Graniczy z Japonią, która jest okupowana przez USA. W odległości 300 km od brzegów Korei Płd. stacjonują wojska amerykańskie.
W celu opanowania pozostałej części Korei, Kim Ir Sen potrzebuje pozwolenia J. Stalina, (czyli wsparcia militarnego i ekonomicznego ZSRR w domyśle). Stalin niechętnie przystaje na tę propozycję aczkolwiek „nie można sądzić, iż kierowała nim niechęć ograniczenia ekspansji komunizmu” jak wielokrotnie podkreśla Bajanow .
W styczniu 1950r. Stalin angażuje się we wsparcie Korei Płd. Jednocześnie prowadzi tajne rozmowy z Mao Zedongiem, namawiając go do wzięcia udziału w wojnie. Jednak w maju 1950r., informuje, Kim Ir Sena i Mao Zedonga, iż operacja połączenia Korei nie może się odbyć, „jeżeli nie uzgodnią między sobą ścisłych elementów współpracy” i delikatnie wycofał się. Aby zrozumieć istotę samej wojny musimy wiedzieć, że podział kraju był związany z powstaniem amerykańskiej i radzieckiej strefy okupacji wzdłuż 38 równoleżnika.
Woja rozpoczyna się 25 VI 1950r. atakiem (wpływ ma również przekroczenie granicy 38 równoleżnika) armii północnokoreańskiej w sile 200 tys. żołnierzy na Republikę Korei. Do połowy września zostaje zajęte prawie całe państwo południowokoreańskie. W efekcie bojkotu Rady Bezpieczeństwa przez ZSRR (żąda dla ChRL miejsca w radzie) zwraca się ona z apelem o pomoc do państw członkowskich ONZ. 27 czerwca uchwala ona wysłanie wojsk międzynarodowych do Korei. Prezydent USA – Thurman wysyła najważniejsze amerykańskie siły wojskowe (udział wojsk innych państw jest symboliczny) dowodzone przez generała D. MacArthura. Ofensywa prowadzona przez Doughlasa doprowadza do przyparcia armii, Kim Ir Sena do granicy chińskiej. Wtedy do wojny przystępują wojska tzw. „ochotników chińskich” dowodzonych przez Peng Te – Huaja w sile 40 dywizji.
W wyniku planu użycia broni atomowej przeciw Chinom i Związkowi Radzieckiemu, gen. MacArthur zostaje zdymisjonowany. Zastępuje go gen. M. Ridgway, prowadząc dwuletnie jeszcze walki.

Przedmowa

Od 5 marca 1953 roku wiele rzeczy uległo zmianie, gdy umarł starzec w podmiej-
skiej okolicy Moskwy. W tydzień po złożeniu go do grobu świat odczuł że nie jest
ten sam.
Czy był, czy nie wytworem epoki, stał się sam epoką; Stalin i po Stalinie. Pano-
wanie ogromne, szef o rozgłosie, o władzy niezmiernej. Strach i miłość, które on in-
spirował, geniusz nadludzki, który mu przypisywano. Później, z dziś na jutro –
otchłań zapomnienia, ostrożne szepty. Najgorliwsi jego uczniowie udają, że nie znają
swego mistrza. I jednocześnie denuncjują jego zbrodnie. I znowu cisza. Jego rodacy
kluczą, by nie wymówić słowa Stalin, określają go wstydliwą parafrazą: „epoka kul-
tu jednostki”.
Nikt nie umiał się tak maskować, jak on. Zrobił ze swej osoby mit, ze swojego
królestwa jaskinię Platona – cienie na murze. Wybudował zamek z mgły, który szo-
kował świat.
Usiłowałem go odnaleźć. Przede wszystkim chciałem opisać to przejście z czasu
– z jego czasu – do innego, iść krok za krokiem przez ostatnie dni Stalina i pierwsze
dni ery następnej. Przeszukiwałem uważnie w pismach, słuchałem świadków,
wszystkich świadków. Tych, którzy go spotykali. I tych, którzy ścinali drzewa na
Syberii i tych, którzy z jego woli znaleźli się bardzo nisko.
To panowanie zakończyło się przed 20 laty, ale jest jednym z najgorzej znanych
w historii. Stalin chciał być tajemnicą.
Z całego serca dziękuję tym, którzy mi pomogli w zbliżeniu się do niego, którzy
żywili tę książkę ciałem i krwią swego własnego doświadczenia.
Musiałem zachować anonimowość niektórych osób. Zawsze aktualny regulamin
zabrania Sowietom „dostarczać informacji” przybyszowi z zagranicy – zwierzenie
się jest zbrodnią.
Może te przeżycia dawnego czasu znikną z wszystkim, co jeszcze istnieje. Może
nadejdzie dzień, kiedy nowe wydanie tej książki poda nazwiska bez strachu, że za-
szkodzi tym wszystkim, którzy podzielili się ze mną swymi wspomnieniami.

To losy Polaków, którzy uciekli przed Hitlerem i Stalinem na Zachód, historie ludzi żyjących z dala od totalitaryzmu, ale poza ojczyzną.

Autor opisuje głównie losy Polaków i Bałtów w okresie II wojny światowej i w późniejszym okresie. Szczególnie mogą utkwić opisy bohaterów tamtych wydarzeń. Tragizm wojny, głód, rozłąka z rodziną, śmierć i choroby - to obrazy tamtych dni. Lane ponadto opisuje losy wysiedleńców, ludzi którzy musieli żyć w różnych miejscach wbrew sobie, nie zapominając o tym z jakiego kraju pochodzą. Książka napisana łatwym językiem polecam nie tylko lubiącym historię, ale i czytelnikom którzy dopiero zaczynają swoją "podróż" w tragiczny świat okresu wojennego.

This present book contains Eastman's principal conclusions, or the principal things he has learned politically, since making that decision. The step is shorter from hard-headed class-struggle socialism to a firm defense of the free-market economy than to the old wishful notion of a highminded slide into utopia.

Eastman's book is written with verve, grace, and a certain amount of rueful humor. And, while its general conclusion will be familiar to readers of F. A. Hayek, Ludwig von Mises, Wilhelm Roepke, and other free market economists, the book derives high voltage effectiveness from the very fact that Eastman knows collectivism from the inside as Hayek and von Mises never could have known it.
