World War II AFV Plans - George Bradford - British Armored Fighting Vehicles (2008).jpg

Based on meticulous research of actual vehicles, official photographs, factory specifications, and, in some cases, the original design plans, George Bradford's drawings of World War II armored fighting vehicles are rendered with great precision and in exact scale offering military enthusiasts and modelers an essential reference on these steel chariots of war. This volume covers British vehicles such as the Cruiser, Matilda, Crusader, Churchill, Cromwell, and the Valentine.

About the Author
George Bradford is a technical artist and military historian who has been creating detailed drawings of armored fighting vehicles for more than thirty years. His other books are American Armored Fighting Vehicles, German Early War Armored Fighting Vehicles, German Late War Armored Fighting Vehicles, and Russian Armored Fighting Vehicles.

World War II AFV Plans - George Bradford - Russian Armored Fighting Vehicles (2007).jpg

This is the fourth book in this excellent series but the first to cover Russian vehicles. The black and white line drawings are uniformly excellent.

Interspersed through the text are an interesting assortment of helpful photos - some "period" and others taken of vehicles now parked outside of military museums in Moscow and elsewhere.

Oscar E. Gilbert - Marine Tank Battles In The Paci fic (2001).jpg

In America's island-hopping war against Japan, the U.S. Marines were our cutting edge. Yet, until now, little has been written about the desperate combats fought by the Marines' own spearheads - their tanks. It is a story of trial and error, incredible courage, and finally, triumph.
In the early island campaigns, Marine tankers went into battle inexperienced and inadequately trained. In a series of costly battles and jungle campaigns - Guadalcanal, New Georgia, Bouganville, Cape Gloucester, Tarawa, Marianas, Peleliu, Saipan and Okinawa - Marine tankers proved beyond doubt that they were essential in achieving victory. Despite suffering sometimes staggering losses, the Marines and their tanks eventually crushed fierce Japanese resistance.
Marine Tank Battles in the Pacific is a gripping narrative that combines exhaustive detail on Marine armor and combat with moving eyewitness accounts, never before published, of what it was actually like to be a Marine tanker in action in the Pacific - awe inspiring bravery in the face of a skilled and fanatic foe.

Concord - Armor At War 7044 - Steven J. Zakoga - U S Armoured Artillery in World War II m (2002).jpg

Determined to learn from the lessons of World War I where it was unprepared and heavily reliant on British and French guns, the US Army developed a whole new generation of field artillery weapons and tactics during the 1930s. Consequently, in World War II it was the clear leader in field artillery.

Providing a thorough examination of the many critical innovations and doctrines, and the impact they had on performance in combat, this book demonstrates why US field artillery was so effective in World War II. Innovations featured include the motorization of artillery, which increased mobility; fire direction centers, which enhanced their firepower; aerial observation; and radio communications.

Exploring, in their entirety, the weapons that formed the backbone of the US artillery arsenal in World War II, this book reveals a wealth of detail not readily available elsewhere.

Tankograd 5017 - Peter Blume - SPz ''Marder''. The Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle of the Modern German Army (2007).jpg

Tanks - AFV Armoured Fighting V... - Tankograd 5017 - Peter Blume - SPz Marder....ng Vehicle of the Modern German Army 2007.jpg

Historically a very important fighting vehicle of the modern era, the Marder was first put into service in 1971. It was a true pioneer in the AIFVs (Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicles) field, along with the Soviet BMP-1 introduced in the late sixties. It is therefore alll the more surprising that no book had been dedicated to the Marder until now, and this opus by Peter Blume fills a gap in the libraries of armour enthusiasts and scholars worldwide. Peter Blume had already written a volume of the FAHRZEUG Profile series “Der Panzergrenadiere der Bundeswehr 1956-Heute” (number 4, ISBN 3-927132-28-4) which had a high Marder content but was more focused on the units, tactics and soldiers than on the vehicle itself.

The Marder is a fully tracked armoured infantry fighting vehicle armed with a 20mm automated cannon and from 1977 a Milan anti-tank missile system. It carries in battle 11 troop (9 in later variants) in a package capable of keeping up in the field with the Leopard 1 and 2 main battle tanks. In service with the German Bundeswehr since 1971, it was not to be exported until very recently. I understand the Greek Army is to get several hundreds Marder 1A3s from Bundeswehr stocks (this is, unfortunately, not mentioned in the book).

This is the latest book in Series 5000 from Tankograd - (in the words of the publisher “MILITÄRFAHRZEUG Spezial Technical Description and Service of the Vehicle-Types and Vehicle-Technology Modern German Army, NATO, Central Europe”). Like other books in this series, it has full dual English/German text and a mixture of colour and black and white photographs. The English translation by Jochen Wollert is first rate and eminently readable, I just noticed a couple of unusual (but understandable) expressions in the whole text.
