W miarę zbliżania się do siebie, "język" ten staje się coraz gwałtowniejszy. Jęki, krzyki, westchnienia, odgłosy uderzeń, towarzyszą skrajnym uczuciom i emocjom targającym bohaterami. Grają ze sobą w sadomasochistyczną grę - pragnąc miłości, zrozumienia, ciepła zadają sobie ciągły ból, walczą, upokarzają się wzajemnie, nienawidzą. Każdy akt przemocy, rodzi kolejny, jeszcze gwałtowniejszy i bardziej okrutny.

A Korean film has been selected to screen in competition at the Sundance Film Festival next month in Park City, Utah. Director Lim Woo-seong's psychological drama "Vegetarian" was selected from among 1,022 submissions to be one of 14 to compete in the World Cinema Narrative Competition section at the prestigious North American fest.

LIM's feature debut is based on a famous short story by Korean writer Han-gang, and revolves around a sensitive housewife who becomes vegetarian as her relationship with her husband deteriorates, culminating in a liaison with her sister's husband, an artist who paints bodies.

The film drew critical attention at its world premiere at the Pusan International Film Festival last October. Director LIM is currently completing his second feature, titled "Scar". Sundance is to take place January 21- 31, with new festival director John Cooper replacing longtime head, Geoffrey Gilmore.

Roaming around gorgeous countryside in a chauffeur-driven vintage limousine, Lina drapes herself naked across the rear passenger upholstery, making herself available for any fortunate stray hiker the vehicle should happen to pass. Although a grim flashback scene involving a pair of unsavoury truck drivers towards the end offers a psychological explanation for Lina's nymphomania, this seems present merely to appease the conventional viewer who requires everything to be nicely spelled out, unable to handle such an abstract and star-focused approach to the art of film. For the remainder of us, this movie is like your favourite painting brought to life.

MAGO is a plea for enviornmental awareness that plays like PINK FLOYD'S THE WALL as produced by Greenpeace. Symbolic of man's destruction of nature, each of the 12 muses, each a part of the original goddess, symbolize parts of nature, and one after another they commit suicide, drown, light themselves on fire, and are beaten, humiliated, and raped, by corrupt and brutal man. Amid the destruction, we are constantly reminded of lost paradise, which rather resembles a nudist colony, but without badminton or volleyball. Lots of nudity, interesting music video-like scenes, overly pretentious dialog, it all adds up to something spectacularly silly. Frustrate the serious filmmakers even more than they already are by seeing the movie not for its message, but for the widely reported 825 nudes that appear, including 100 women from Seoul college campuses.

In 1928, Georges Bataille published this first novel under a pseudonym, a legendary shocker that uncovers the dark side of the erotic by means of forbidden obsessive fantasies of excess and sexual extremes. A classic of pornographic literature, Story of the Eye finds the parallels in Sade and Nietzsche and in the investigations of contemporary psychology; it also forecasts Bataille's own theories of ecstasy, death and transgression which he developed in later work.
Only Georges Bataille could write, of an eyeball removed from a corpse, that "the caress of the eye over the skin is so utterly, so extraordinarily gentle, and the sensation is so bizarre that it has something of a rooster's horrible crowing." Bataille has been called a "metaphysician of evil," specializing in blasphemy, profanation, and horror. Story of the Eye, written in 1928, is his best-known work; it is unashamedly surrealistic, both disgusting and fascinating, and packed with seemingly endless violations. It's something of an underground classic, rediscovered by each new generation. Most recently, the Icelandic pop singer Björk Guðdmundsdóttir cites Story of the Eye as a major inspiration: she made a music video that alludes to Bataille's erotic uses of eggs, and she plans to read an excerpt for an album. Warning: Story of the Eye is graphically sexual, and is only for adults who are not easily offended.
