It's the story of a well-to-do law student who is given the assignment to help a young, working class woman facing a tough life situation, and how the experience ultimately brings profound lessons and other surprises to both of them.

Whitt Sheffield (Bruening) is close to graduating from The Sheffield Law School with his law degree and then moving into his father's company as a corporate lawyer. He is given an assignment in his Public Interest Law class to help a disadvantaged, single mother, Kylie Burch (O'Keefe), find a job with benefits but he doesn't at first understand why he needs to even bother with this assignment since he's going into corporate law. His teacher, Professor Victoria Corrales (Marie), quickly makes it clear to him that it's a requirement for him to graduate. Kylie Burch is an attractive young woman who can't hold a job, primarily because her son is ill which forces her to leave work often to get him medical attention. Whitt gets started on his assignment but is immediately challenged in his efforts to establish a connection with Kylie who doesn't want to be thought of as a charity case.

But soon a series of incidents and unexpected events lead each one to realize that they're more alike than they had at first realized, and that they both have a lot to learn from and appreciate about one another. Eric Roberts plays Whitt's demanding father, Benjamin Sheffield.

The star of season 17 of the ABC dating show "The Bachelor" wed winner Catherine Giudici in Santa Barbara, California on Sunday, Jan. 26 in what marked the network's first live telecast of a wedding of contestants from the show. The series documented the start of their relationship as she competed for his heart along with 23 other women.

"The best day of my life. I'm a Lowe!" Giudici said on her Instagram page on Monday.

The event was officiated by Lowe's father Jay, an ordained Baptist minister from Colleyville, Texas, and attended by friends, family and former "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" contestants, including other married stars. The wedding took place at the Four Seasons Biltmore hotel in Santa Barbara, California.

The bride and her 12 bridesmaids wore Monique Lhuillier designs -- Giudici wore a strapless, ivory, lace mermaid gown and they sported blush full-length chiffon dresses.

Earlier this month, Lowe and Giudici talked to OTRC.com about getting married live on TV. Lowe said he was "really not nervous" about the wedding being televised.

"Everything that we've done so far as a couple has been televised," he said.

Richard Kerm (Kaj-Erik Eriksen) leaves his latest job as an investigative journalist because his editor Charles insists on publishing an unconfirmed article about local political corruption. As a consequence, a politician commits suicide. Regretting having published that article, he quits.
Richard comes back to his hometown of Glenville, a small town where everybody knows everybody from ages ago. His former boss named Burt "Dell" Delfino (Adrian Hough) gives him a job as a reporter. Soon afterwards, an advertising editor (Richard Thomas) at the newspaper comes across him on the street, offers him a coffee and mentions that his old girlfriend, Jackie (Christine Chatelain), is still working at her family's restaurant. Richard stops by the restaurant and they talk about their lives. She introduces him to the chef, an old friend called Moose (Chris Cochrane) because he makes moose noises. Suddenly, she throws a frozen chicken at his head because he had abandoned her and she still resents that. Her life had not been that wonderful: she married 5 years ago but got divorced only six months afterwards. Richard goes to the local doctor, Doctor Jeff Farley (Stephen Huszar), who also went to high school with him. To explain the blacened skin, Richard says that he banged his head when he was getting out of his car.

There is a small gathering of old friends at the restaurant to celebrate Richard's 30th birthday: Dell, Dick, Jeff, Jackie and Moose are there. Richard insists on his story of his banging himself on the car hood, and there he learns that Jackie and Jeff are an item. Afterwards, the advertising editor, named Dick, talks to him when they are alone. Dick knows an awful lot of things about Richard, so many that the journalist starts feeling distrustful. Dick insists: he even tells him that he's Richard from the future, when he is 55. He shows that he has the same birthmark on his ass.

Richard starts believing that Dick took the name from the movie which inspired Richard to become a journalist, All the President's Men. Richard doesn't want to stay for long in his hometown, but Dick tells him that he will end up getting married to Jackie.

Caryn Briggs (Boston) is a fiercely independent businesswomen who has alway been skeptical about marriage, seeling commitment as throwing away her future. At a fundraising event with her friends Gregg (Krowchuk) and Stephanie (Liebert), Caryn agrees to having her fortune read at a charity booth run by gypsy fortuneteller Madame Rue (Powers), who predicts that Caryn will have a ring by spring. Caryn takes that to mean that if she does not have a ring by spring she will never marry.
Caryn starts a new job where she seems to have a lot in common with her laid-back boss Tom Halsey (Morrow). The two have a friendly relationship and find it easy to talk with eachother.
The fortuneteller's prediction starts to bother Caryn when Stephanie and Gregg’s fortunes come true. Caryn worries she might be closer to a ring than she thought and the most likely prosepct would be from her uptight boyfriend, Bryce. She worries that he is going to propose, but he breaks up with her instead, telling her that she is not marriage material.
The prediction, along with the break-up, cause Caryn to do some soul searching and she realizes that she must get over her fear of commitment. She contacts her former boyfriends in a quest to discover what went wrong with her relationships.
Spring is approaching and still no ring for Caryn. She worries that she is doomed to a lifetime of being along. She learns that the true sacrifice isn’t getting hitched—but giving up on a real, lasting love.
