Świat nigdy nie był świadkiem większego głodu na szmal, sławę i „szacun”, aniżeli dziś, z jego wątpliwej jakości produktami popkultury w rodzaju MTV, „Big Brothera” czy wypacykowanych jak tysiącdolarowe dziwki sezonowych gwiazdek kina, i nic lepiej nie wpisuje się w krytykę tychże niż rewelacyjny, szczery do bólu debiut reżyserski Asii Argento, córki osławionego Daria Argento. To surowe, nakręcone w pełni techniką cyfrową studium o piekle sławy i jej bolesnych konsekwencjach Asia ujęła w charakterze paradokumentu, zaś w centrum umiejscowiła, graną przez siebie, dwudziestoletnią Annę Battistę, naiwną, bezrefleksyjną aktorkę i celebrity u szczytu sławy. Ważniejszym jednak niż sama Battista wydaje się być tu tło, które ją ukształtowało. Najpierw dom z oziębłym ojcem i nieczułą matką, która kończy śmiercią przez przedawkowanie. Dalej otoczenie z pracy i grono przyjaciół, konglomerat dziwaków, narwańców, ćpunów, dewiantów i cynicznych reżyserów, a dopiero na końcu to pożądane przez masę światowe życie: kangurze skoki z Rzymu do Paryża, z Paryża do Mediolanu, stamtąd do Londynu, a dalej do Los Angeles i Amsterdamu, przynoszące nieustanną rozpacz i upokorzenie. Nic odkrywczego w obserwacji, że za szybkim seksem i narkotykami kryją się samotność, pragnienie bycia kochanym i pętające poczucie bycia wydanym na pożarcie cynicznych mass mediów, jednak nigdzie indziej nie zostało to podane tak przejmująco, i mimo iż bywa przerysowane, dzięki charyzmie i odwadze Argento tylko zyskuje na intensywności.

Dwudziestopięcioletnia wówczas, niepokorna, walcząca z byciem w cieniu ojca Argento, której kariera aktorska dopiero co nabierała rozpędu, przekracza tu samą siebie, ukazując nam to wszystko, co rzekomo ma nas uczynić spełnionymi i zadowolonymi, a w efekcie pogrąża w konfuzji i apatii. Czy można to traktować jak ostrzeżenie? Być może. Patrząc z dzisiejszej perspektywy, widząc Argento jako matkę dwójki dzieci, możemy wnioskować, że egzorcyzmowanie demonów młodości powiodło się.

Mocne, osobiste kino o potrzebie równowagi, która jest niezbędna każdemu z nas.

The pace is slow for today. Needs a re-edit. But plenty great shots to start with anyway. Looking for more from these folks. Very very sensual.

Very rare non-Jess Franco Lina Romay film directed by Erwin Dietrich, Rolls Royce Baby carries a basic storyline, but its entire purpose is simply to marvel at the beauty and uninhibited abandon of the magnificent Ms. Romay, who has never looked as tantalisingly tempting as she does here. Roaming around gorgeous countryside in a chauffeur-driven vintage limousine, Lina drapes herself naked across the rear passenger upholstery, making herself available for any fortunate stray hiker the vehicle should happen to pass. Although a grim flashback scene involving a pair of unsavoury truck drivers towards the end offers a psychological explanation for Lina's nymphomania, this seems present merely to appease the conventional viewer who requires everything to be nicely spelled out, unable to handle such an abstract and star-focused approach to the art of film. For the remainder of us, this movie is like your favourite painting brought to life.

She splits into twelve muses, naked women (don't ask, the whole story is told in hallucinogenic flashback anyway), and they romp around in paradise with early mankind. But as usual, someone grabs for the forbidden fruit (this time, yummy grapes), and pretty soon everyone is clubbing each other to death, which brings us pretty much up to the present day. MAGO is a plea for enviornmental awareness that plays like PINK FLOYD'S THE WALL as produced by Greenpeace. Symbolic of man's destruction of nature, each of the 12 muses, each a part of the original goddess, symbolize parts of nature, and one after another they commit suicide, drown, light themselves on fire, and are beaten, humiliated, and raped, by corrupt and brutal man. Amid the destruction, we are constantly reminded of lost paradise, which rather resembles a nudist colony, but without badminton or volleyball. Lots of nudity, interesting music video-like scenes, overly pretentious dialog, it all adds up to something spectacularly silly. Frustrate the serious filmmakers even more than they already are by seeing the movie not for its message, but for the widely reported 825 nudes that appear, including 100 women from Seoul college campuses.

Story of the Eye (2004).avi

In 1928, Georges Bataille published this first novel under a pseudonym, a legendary shocker that uncovers the dark side of the erotic by means of forbidden obsessive fantasies of excess and sexual extremes. A classic of pornographic literature, Story of the Eye finds the parallels in Sade and Nietzsche and in the investigations of contemporary psychology; it also forecasts Bataille's own theories of ecstasy, death and transgression which he developed in later work.
Only Georges Bataille could write, of an eyeball removed from a corpse, that "the caress of the eye over the skin is so utterly, so extraordinarily gentle, and the sensation is so bizarre that it has something of a rooster's horrible crowing." Bataille has been called a "metaphysician of evil," specializing in blasphemy, profanation, and horror. Story of the Eye, written in 1928, is his best-known work; it is unashamedly surrealistic, both disgusting and fascinating, and packed with seemingly endless violations. It's something of an underground classic, rediscovered by each new generation. Most recently, the Icelandic pop singer Björk Guðdmundsdóttir cites Story of the Eye as a major inspiration: she made a music video that alludes to Bataille's erotic uses of eggs, and she plans to read an excerpt for an album. Warning: Story of the Eye is graphically sexual, and is only for adults who are not easily offended.

Matana MiShamayim (2003) aka Gift from Above.avi

It's quite difficult to place 'Present from the Skies' into a well-defined corner. It's an Israeli film, but it does not look too much as other Israeli films. On one hand it is done with a professionalism and story telling skills that very few Israeli films have. It does borrow some elements of the so called 'burekas' comedies - genre inspired from the life of the development towns or suburbs in the 70s or 80s, but it dares to deal with issues related to the life and habits of some of the Israeli social groups in a manner that exceeds many of the self-imposed limits other Israeli creators place on themselves.

The film deals with the Georgian community in Israel, and is half spoken in Georgian, and from this point of view reminds other ethnic films in the world cinema. The way the director Dover Koshashvili - of Georgian origin himself - approaches aspects of the family relations and especially the attitude towards women is of an extreme, almost cruel realism, and all is done with no intention of programmatic social or moral judgment. The director focuses on creating the right atmosphere, depicting a world, and inviting the viewer to judge by himself. Good acting adds to this movie which offers an experience different of all other Israeli movies that you may have seen.
