About the Author
John A. Krout, PhD, is Professor of Gerontology and Director of the Gerontology Institute at Ithaca College. He has written over 50 book chapters and articles, and published in a wide range of academic journals. He has received over a dozen grants to support his research program in rural aging issues and community-based services for older adults. His book include Service Delivery to Rural Older Adults: Research, Policy, and Practice, co-edited with R. Turner Goins (Springer Publishing, 2006).

Elaine Wethington, PhD, is Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Human Development at Cornell University and is Co-Director of the Cornell Institute for Translational Research on Aging. Dr. Wethington is a medical sociologist, specializing in the study of stressors and mental health. She received her PhD from the University of Michigan. She is the co-principal investigator and pilot studies director for the Cornell Institute for Translational Research on Aging (CITRA). CITRA fosters the development of community-based research on aging in New York City by engaging gerontologists, geriatricians, and geropsychiatrists on Cornell's geographically dispersed campuses in research projects that directly relate to the needs of aging people in New York City. CITRA is an Edward R. Roybal Center, supported by the National Institute on Aging. To date, CITRA has funded studies to assess the demographic characteristics of those who receive home-delivered meals, deliver telephone-based mental health assistance to caregivers, survey the experiences of retired artists, and study end-of-life decision making in diverse groups. The institute also sponsors research reviews for practitioners in New York City among other outreach activities.

He has written and co-written numerous books, including Fortress 4: American Defenses of Corregidor and Manila Bay 1898–1945. Mark lives in Peoria, Illinois.
