Zastosowania WinRE
Środowisko odzyskiwania systemu Windows Vista/7 to mechanizm naprawczy, który umożliwia:
- naprawianie problemów z uruchamianiem systemu
- przywracanie systemu
- odtwarzanie systemu z kopii systemowej
- przetestowanie RAM
- dostęp do Wiersza poleceń (odpowiednik Konsoli Odzyskiwania XP) - opcja ta działa również na XP

Jak uruchomić WinRE
- start z instalacyjnego CD Windows
- start ze specjalnego Recovery Disc

Płyta wykrywa dyski SATA, a w szczególnych przypadkach umożliwia ręczne podanie sterowników opcją Load Drivers. WinRE ładuje obraz boot.wim do pamięci RAM pod literą X, co oznacza że zwalnia normalny napęd, można wymieniać nośniki nie tracąc dostępu do działającego już w pamięci WinRE. Wykrywane są również dyski USB.
Płyty można wykorzystać również pod Windows XP - okienko wykrywania systemów operacyjnych będzie puste, a po przejściu dalej działać będzie tylko Wiersz polecenia.
Po uruchomieniu z płyty instalacyjnej / Recovery Disc wybieramy opcję Repair your computer:

Dalej wybieramy układ klawiatury, a następnie wykryty system (uruchamiając na XP okienko będzie puste, bo płyta nie umożliwia detekcji niższego systemu niż Vista).

Klikamy Next i pojawi się lista modułów Recowery.

Wpisując w Wiersz polecenia komendę notepad, następnie wybierając menu File --> Open mamy mamy dostęp do mini exploratora, gdzie możemy kopiować pliki.

The system recovery information that follows includes: launching the Windows Recovery Environment, replacing corrupted or missing system files with Startup Repair, restoring stability with System Restore, restoring an image backup with Windows Complete PC Restore, running the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, and working at the command prompt.
Launching the Windows Recovery Environment

If you have a Windows Vista distribution DVD, you can get to the Windows Recovery Environment as follows:

1.

Insert the Windows Vista DVD.

Restart your computer:

Click the Start button Picture of Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button Picture of Lock button, and then click Restart.

Let the computer restart (boot) from the DVD.

If prompted, press any key to continue.

When you reach the Install Windows screen, select your preferences in the Language to install, Time and currency format, and Keyboard or input method boxes, and then click Next. The following screen appears.

Do not click Install now. Instead, click Repair your computer. The System Recovery Options dialog box appears.
